I am privileged to say I can call Debby Irving a teacher, mentor, and friend. Having first met Debby in her facilitator role of a White People Challenging Racism course I was enrolled in, I was immediately impressed by her honesty, compassion, and astute observations. However, it is her work outside of the classroom that has made the most impact on me. I appreciate her willingness to offer perspective on my own work, to support and even co-facilitate anti-racism events that I coordinated, and, perhaps most importantly, to serve as a positive role model and source of strength as my peers and I engage in the challenging but necessary work in our communities and ourselves. I am grateful to Debby for all of her various forms of support as I move forward on my own journey of self-exploration and community-building.
